Flying High!

The first adventure of our vacation started with the kids' first airplane ride. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 8:20 so at 6 a.m. we were up and at 'em and the kids were eager to hit the road, ummm, more appropriately, the SKY! Unfortunately (you could hear that coming couldn't you?) our plane was having some problems. Our flight was delayed until 8:45, oh wait a minute, I mean 9:00.

Oh excuse me the flight has now been delayed until 9:20. We are still smiling!

"We are sorry for the inconvenience but the mechanics need to replace the fuel filter. You will be leaving Salt Lake at 9:45." The smiles are fading, but we will just have a rest! After all we don't want to try flying on a broken plane! (At least this is what I try telling them!)

"The fuel filter has been replaced, but the mechanics are now reporting a bad O-ring. The flight is scheduled to leave at 10:35." O no! We are a little worried now because we have a different flight to catch in Texas. The attendant assures Karl will will have time to make it and the kids start to entertain them selves as best they can. As you can see in the picture above.

Finally we are off! (or should I say, ON.) Take-off went well, no O-rings seem to be malfunctioning, and the kids enjoyed the thrill of taking off in the airplane.

Okay now remember how I explained that the attendant told Karl that we should have plenty of time to make our layover flight in Texas? Yeah. Well the layover was originally suppose to be three hours and by the time we got to the Dallas airport we had exactly enough time to get to our next gate and load on the plane! What an adventure!

This is a beautiful sight of the clouds as we were coming into DC. We didn't get a good view of the area because of the clouds, but they were breathtaking so it didn't matter.

After arriving in DC and as we were exiting, Jax caught a glimpse of the cock pit and was amazed. The pilot was a very friendly man who invited the kids right up in. We stood just outside the plane and waited while Jax asked him what nearly every control did! He learned that they use LOTS of gas. He even got to push the lever forward until the plane talked to him! The pilot was great and very patient with Jax and his questions!

Finally we arrive in DC. Jax caught a ride with Grandpa. He and Granny met us at the airport. They were on a flight that came in two hours ahead of us. We had quite an ammount of luggage as you can see! Most of it was for the baby!
